Scientific papers and conference proceedings about the Seawater Greenhouse.
Seawater Greenhouse scientific papers The Seawater Greenhouse in the United Arab Emirates: thermal modeling and evaluation of design options (PDF 208 kb)
The Seawater Greenhouse combines a solar desalination system with an environment for cultivating crops in which transpiration is minimised. Results from the prototype greenhouse in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are used to calibrate a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model. Desalination 173, 2, 103–111, P.A. Davies and C. Paton, 2005 (16 pages).
Seawater Greenhouse scientific papers The Seawater Greenhouse and the Watermaker Condenser (PDF 1.6 Mb)
In this paper we review the concept of the Seawater Greenhouse mentioning the protoypes constructed in Tenerife, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. 3rd Int. Heat Powered Cycles Conference, Larnaca, Cyprus. P. A. Davies and C. Paton, 2004 (7 pages).
Seawater Greenhouse scientific papers Potential of the Seawater Greenhouse in Middle Eastern climates (PDF 912 kb)
"In this paper we describe the Seawater Greenhouse system. We make reference to installations in the Canary Islands and the United Arab Emirates and to the installation now in progress in Oman. The experiments with these developmental versions have led us to create some mathematical models, enabling us to simulate performance in different climates. We analyse historical weather data for some Middle Eastern locations, including the Gulf of Aqaba, and discuss the effects these are likely to have on design considerations and performance." P.A. Davies, K. Turner and C. Paton, International Engineering Conference Mutah 2004, Mutah, Jordan, 523–540, 2004 (18 pages).
Seawater Greenhouse scientific papers Simulation of fresh water production usign a humidification-dehumidification seawater greenhouse (PDF 196 kb)
A thermodynamic simulation study was performed on the influence of greenhouse-related parameters on a desalination process that combines fresh water production using humidification-dehumidification with the growth of crops in a greenhouse system. S.S. Sablani, M.F.A. Goosen, C. Paton, W.H. Shayya and H. Al-Hinai, World Renewable Energy Congress VII, 29 June–5 July 2002, Cologne, Germany (5 pages).
Seawater Greenhouse scientific papers Seawater Greenhouse Development for Oman: Thermodynamic Modelling and Economic Analysis (PDF 120 kb)
The Middle East Desalination Research Center Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. C. Paton, November 2001 (12 pages).
Seawater Greenhouse scientific papers Humidification-Dehumidification Desalination: Seawater Greenhouse Development (PDF 260 kb)
The main objective of our study was to determine the influence of greenhouse-related parameters on a desalination process that combines fresh water production using humidification-dehumidification with the growth of crops in a greenhouse system. M.F.A. Goosen, S.S. Sablani, H. Al-Hinai, C. Paton and W.H. Shayyad, IDA World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse, October 2001, Manama, Bahrain (12 pages).
