This folder contains documents showing different OTEC designs.
OTEC designs Mist Lift OTEC designs
The Mist Lift OTEC is an open cycle design, i.e. it uses water vapor as the working fluid. It differs from the Claude cycle in that the work is extracted by the vapor lifting a mist of water droplets rather than driving a turbine.
OTEC designs The Sea Solar Power plant at Kulasekarapattinam (PDF, 568 kb)
A 100 MW floating Sea Solar Power design for the state of Tamilnadu, India. July 1994 by J. Hilbert Anderson (21 pages).
OTEC designs Project RATAK, A potential OTEC power plant for the Marshall Islands (PDF, 508 Kb)
An overview of a 5-10 MW OTEC plant feasability study for the Marshall Islands. Autumn 1994 by James G. Wenzel (5 pages).
OTEC designs GenOtec's St. Croix design (PDF 1.5Mb)
GenOtec's 5MW design for an OTEC based on St. Croix. (36 pages).
OTEC designs Design of a 5 MWe OTEC pre-commercial plant (PDF 1.2 Mb)
The technical and economic evaluation of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plants indicates that their commercial future lies in floating plants of approximately 100 MWe capacity for industrialized nations and smaller plants for the small island developing states (SIDS). Commercial development is impaired by the lack of operational data. 1994(?) by Luis A. Vega and Gérard C. Nihous (15 pages).
OTEC designs The 210 kWe (gross) Open-Cycle Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) experimental facility (PDF 426 kb)
An overview document with a drawing. 1993 by Luis Vega (2 pages).
OTEC designs Design of an open-cycle Ocean Thermal Energ Conversion (OTEC) experimental facility (PDF 880 kb)
A design description document for the 210 kW open-cycle OTEC at NELHA, June 1992 by Luis Vega (9 pages).
OTEC designs OC-OTEC NPPE - Solar Energy Research Institute, (PDF, 13 Mb)
Conceptual design of an Open-Cycle Ocean Energy Conversion net power-producing experiment (OC-OTEC NPPE), 40kW design. July 1990, by J. Bharathan, H.J. Green, H.F. Link, E.K. Parsons, J.M. Parsons, F. Zangrando (160 pages).
OTEC designs Conceptual design of an open-cycle OTEC plant for the production of electricity and fresh water in a pacific island (PDF 546 kb)
A plant, based on the Open-Cycle Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) concept, was designed to supply electricity and fresh water to a Pacific Island community. In order to boost fresh water production, a second-stage flashing unit, driven by the residual thermal gradient of the OTEC seawater effluents, was incorporated. November 1989 by G.C. Nihous, M.A.Syed and L.A.Vega (10 pages).
OTEC designs Outline of the 100kW OTEC pilot plant in The Republic of Nauru (PDF, 1.8Mb)
A 100 kW OTEC pilot plant was constructed for demonstration purposes in the Republic of Nauru and began, in October 1981, to send electricity to the real power system. Sept. 1983, by Tsuneo Mitsui, Fumio Ito, Yutaka Seya, Yasunobu Nakamoto (5 pages).
